She watches the melting snow,
The ice gripping her chest releases its hold.
The heat of the sun brightens the beach,
Her blue eyes glisten with tears of relief.
He slams the heavy wooden door,
Laden with suitcases, he storms to the car.
The tires screech as he speeds away,
As the noise fades, her spirit lifts.
She clasps her journal to her breast,
She opens the mahogany door.
Strangely, it yields to her touch – weighted no longer,
She is welcomed by the glorious day.
Her step is gentle,
She walks on air.
The ocean’s waves welcome her as she settles on the sand,
Pen in hand, Corinne is free.
