Golden Couple

A golden couple, I saw today,
In their deep, golden years,
A sparkle, within their eyes,
With a flame, flickering dim.

Holding hands, on their way home,
Far beyond, lovers now,
They are, the best of friends,
The hands they hold,
Are growing cold.

With time so cruel,
His tall statuesque, now hunch and frail,
As he holds, her hand,
They guide, each other, along the trail.

Walking, remembering,
Their youthful days,
When stars sparkled, in their eyes,
And flames burn deep inside.

When there was, a beat and a rhythm,
To their, younger stride,
As they danced, the waltz,
From side to side.

No need to think, of pledges made
To this day, they have not strayed,
Since those, wonderful days,
That made them, end this way.

I think this is the dream we all reach for, William. This reminds me of my grandparents. I was lucky enough to attend their 50th anniversary before my grandfather died. Very sweet poem. Hugs,
Sheila

That is the most truth of truths. Love grows to many stages. This was remarkable. Something I would've never thought to write, and so cleverly ;)
Happy Christmas!!

This is so beautiful, William. Reminds me of a couple I read about in their golden years. The husband said, "each night before I go to bed, the last words I utter to my wife is, I love you. For if I should go in the night, she will always remember, my last words." <sniffle sniffle> Gets me every time I think about that story. Thanks for the beautiful write, William...
