I - (Strength)

The raven calls outside my door
comes not to say that life is shorn;
brings tidings of life’s better days...
In the tree across the way, he plays.
Many voices does he cry -
and looking up through daylight sky,
the purple black of feathers born
upon raven’s head, these do adorn.
They say there’s laughter in his sight,
and two they say, bring mirth as plight.
But looking in I see his call,
with many voices does he enthrall.
Black as midnight, sleek as oil -
the raven is a wiser soul
than most who sit in nature’s trees,
from midnight eyes, he looks, he sees.
No death he carries, as Poe once told...
Instead there hope, he brings my soul.
I know that when I hear him sing -
Life, dear life, awakening.

II- (Intelligence)

The raven returned, by two this day
and brought their mirth in a front yard tree,
I turned to look out the window clear,
as I turned, they were looking at me.
And as I stirred to write these words
both flew from the tree on high,
landing on the deep green grass,
a reflection in my eyes.
The beautiful black and violet coat
they wore in the rain this day...
Brought warmth, brought joy and memories
of intelligence at play.
I turned to look out the window once more,
and they had left their auras behind,
An essence clear to spirit eyes
able to discern their beauty in kind.

III - (Freedom)

I hear the call of the Raven’s song
as its spirit soars above in blue skies.
I feel the touch of the Raven
’
s soul
and look up to see with clear eyes.
I see with the sight of his Raven view
blending and joining with mine,
and the beautiful and endless language of song
flying high and enlightening my mind.
Fly on, great Raven, fly above, fly free,
fly high, great Raven, through this heart within me.
Send me your song with morning
’
s angelic prayer
of love and of God and of Nature
’
s sweet air.

The three parts to this is very wise. I love how it is divided into three parts, strength, intelligence, and freedom.

The author is very perceptive of what she saw of Raven. This is personal for me, and I accept this as a Buddhist trilogy, as in a non-ego centeredness, instead nature's path of enlightment. Why this is personal to me is that I am a wolf keeper and raven leads wolf to food, and in kind return for this, wolf leaves raven leftovers. This is why you see pictures of ravens feeding on a still meaty carcass and the wolves are in close company. Both the Raven and the Wolf, through literary tales have been portrayed as evil. Perhaps that is why they look out after one another.

There is a fusion of intelligence and enlightment here, giving this poem its strength. Sending my Goddess prayer back to you on the calm glide of a raven's feather, Deborah. "An it harm none, do what ye will." Blessed be. The five points of the pentacle; air, earth, fire, water, and spirit.

Deborah,

I enjoyed your poems. I think it's high time the raven stops taking the bad wrap. In life we all serve One and we all serve a purpose.
