The joy I once felt
now instead only tears,
I thought it'd be easier
as I got older in years.

What happened to the peace
that once lived in my heart,
The kindness, the caring
I once did impart?

My days filled with pain,
my mind cannot grasp
why it's so hard to complete
the smallest of tasks.

My heart filled with sorrow,
river overflows its banks,
Yet, for every moment
I give God my thanks

For a home that is warm,
and a bed that is soft;
For the loving and caring
friends and family I've got.

For the love of a kitten,
my dear little friend;
For the bounty in my kitchen
and a heart on the mend.

For sunshine in the morning
and stars in the night;
For clearing away the darkness
and returning me to light.
