Best Answers: In Politics and In Life

What’s in a name?
Have you ever met a conservative
Or a liberal
Who seeks best answers via
the methods of science?
Me neither.

How about a “freedom” fighter who murders
second-hand by electing empty-headed
rich boys who haven’t the brains
or the guts to defend the Constitution
But will “bomb bomb Iran?”

There are those who believe in making up names
to demonize great thinkers and then
pretend like they have found the
truth after the demonization.

Socrates enjoined us to examine life
for best answers, not to pretend to knowledge.
Galileo implored humanity to trust in our
God-given brains for answers, not
to accept the mindless thoughts of tyrants
who can neither think nor swim.

So, where are the critical thinkers?
Where are the carefully culled facts?
Where are the analyses?
Where are the syntheses?
The evaluations?
Where are the limited conclusions
that are accurate, reliable, and useful?

Closed-minds are the last refuge of ignorance.
Closed-minds are also easy prey for
dictators, and thugs, and knuckle-draggers.
It’s a choice unworthy of humanity.

Best answers come only from open-minds.

I cast my lot with Socrates and Galileo.
I put my trust in a forgiving God and
I keep my mind open—not for the truth—but
for best answers that only minds in search of it
can ever find.
