( Me and my old dog Byron...a Basset Hound)
Wilmington Island, Georgia
In the solace of an evening
On a street lined with oaks
Blonde follicles that liven
Movements that provoke
Eyes that bounce, in their sockets
Sparks that fly....retro rockets
Phosphorous of fireflies glimmer
Loop and dodge ....dimmer , dimmer
Pacing steps with every pant
Legs high-stepp'n, thighs that dance
Baying Basset, chasing sparks
Lightning insects , in the dark
Nighthawk squeals his dining call
Breasts are dancing... bouncing balls
Licking flashes fly through night
Stepp'n faster...sweat that fights
Paces toying with wounds to heal
Memories chasing thoughts...until
Exasperated female wiles
Counts each one then gently files
Away the pains ... then catches up
With lanterned bugs and long eared pups
Marsh that beckons... teasing pains
Tears to lick and smiles to gain
Night path moves beneath her steps
Quickened grounds that give in... depth
Each new step completes the pace
Moods swing yonder... saving grace
Stars upon her shoulders there
Dancing congas in her hair
Flecks upon each hollowed spot
Dots of lightning skip and hop
Reeds that live each shouldered life
High top jogging ... slicing night
Then quiet is broken til next time
Step on a dollar... give in a dime
Ounces of love'n... pounding away
With echoed hearts...just another day.
Susan, your poem runs a gamut of emotions creating wonderful visuals of a quite spectacular place. I love this area that you speak so eloquently of…I do however miss Big Al’s Barbecue and the Piggley Wigley though. At least there is still Hardee’s for morning biscuits and listening to the old men share their coffee and spin their tales…thanks for taking me back to Wilmington Island in the outstanding poem.
Ahh the sights and sounds of mother natures own theatre. We too often take these things, that you so eloquently described to our blind eyes, for granted.
This I guess, is what I'd be hoping to encounter when taking the dog for a leisurely stroll. Unfortunately I don't have one. I've a cat, but they don't leisurely stroll tied to a leash...
A fascinating and entrancing ramble through a visual and atmospheric day in your life...
You pack more into a day, than most would in a week, Susan...:)
