Poem Artwork

There it rests in the reeds
Along a quiet marsh
Darkened wood with rusted sutures
Weather worn and harsh
One lone oar lays aside
A crabtrap tossed and broken
The quiet breaks for a small sloop
Shiney, new and oaken
Between the two the memory
Lies in the older boat
For painted flakes that dot the sides
For the memories still afloat

Love the tale you weave in the mind of the reader from the casual exposure to the two boats, Susan. May I read between then?

Memories, oh memories, keep us captured by their spell!
The very first familiar face I came accross when I first arrived in London was an old Clyde ferry, Queen Mary II. I had sailed down the west coast of Scotland on this boat many times throughout the 1960s as a kid. Now it stands proudly on the Thames as a posh restaurant. But as I gazed down at it from Waterloo Bridge, it fed me with memories of yesteryear.

Your poem is very apt.

Dai

The painter would paint the older. So too, the poet. Reserving the new for digital photography.

I enjoy looking at old pictures of objects, trying to picture them and their owners when they were new. Enjoyed

This is a remarkale telling of memories that are far more; more joys, more friends, more love, and more events than we could write about or tell. Just as I decide that a certain weiter is dedicated to a particular genre, that writer fools me. Thank y0u for doing just that... in your rowboat.
