It is vital that people "count their blessings" to appreciate what they possess without having to undergo its actual loss.

-Abraham Maslow

Ave Maria echoes from the rafters of the domed cathedral
It pierces the silence of doom that befriends the dead
Organs become mute to voices of angels here for burial
Where war returns the Patriot to his beloved unafraid
Colors of bravery cloak the pine as tears wash over his courage
Grief is alive while bravery is spoken instead
Mortals grieve for the Gods of Destiny
Festooned with wings now the sons of the Dead
Ava Maria the chorus of angels sing to the spirits
While hearts reach out for love that will never be fed
Chorused accompanied escorts take but another statistic of war
To the God of all equals who rages at man's decision to scar.

It is interesting that I saw A Pay riots Ave in my mail. What price war? Why do the brave die in a far off land? Surely not to protect us, but to feed destiny, the gods of war.

Stupid is as stupid does. No hymn in the world can cure that evil. Thanks, Susan for sharing your sorrow.

Love the poised and sacred balance to this one, Susan, and also your Golda Meir quote which is oh so true. Thoughtful and as light-refracting as a chancel stained-glass window. Beautiful and wise thoughts admirably expressed. Kate xx

Beautiful poem. I have heard the Ave Maria so many times, especially in funerals, always the death of someone special. Victor

Certainly the "Universal" music of all Christians, and many of other faiths, you've given it new meaning and purpose. Your pen equals the long-ago notes written by various composers. Thank you... from a Vet too old for remembering the really bad things of war.

Patriotism is a long lost feeling, you have brought it back to me. Thank you, I believe when you make a choice to fight for your country, you understand that you may never come back...
Very beautiful poem,

Peace, Love, and Light,
