from my attic of verse from the Big easy, New Orleans. I was there a year ago today.

Susan*

Upon the roof high above it all

I look below and ache to call

"Please come to me from where you will

I'm way up here and waiting still

"You see I reign above it all

For fear that love will make me fall

For wanting more than can be given

For seeking what I know as Heaven

In this place where darkness reigns

Where city lights go untamed

Two blocks from where the Mississippi runs

Where the sound of Blues can come undone

Alas I'm where I ought to be

With my silhouette high above the trees

With eyes shining in the midnight blue

Wishing for more than I could use

Here is happiness in a smile dressed well

In the facade of a lady in her own Hell

For to take less would be unfair

To this Southern woman who waits up here

Its Blues at midnight while New Orleans sleep

And way up here this Rebel weeps.

Excellant touching beauty in this piece Susan! I have been a rebel of a different sort all my life, but this piece speaks of another kind so beautifully!

This is utterly beautiful. It sounds just like a good poem should sound, though I am not sure if this is an allegory.. Is it?

My mom says ‘If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything’. Sorry mom but under the guise of poetic license I penned these beauties.
