I love the Live Oak tree. It is my favorite for its spiritual gift of a nurturing soul. Mother Nature chose an honorable position for this piece of majesty.

SKR

Majestic Oak

Majestically she grows her limbs
Her age is hard to guess
She fingers sky with every morn
Her moss a lovely dress
Her sighs the creak with every breeze
Her smile a whispered pout
She bends so gently to the east
A home for earthly shouts
Raccoons, opossums, birds and squirrels
A rope laced over digits hold
A swing for boys and girls
She drips down tears each time it rains
She heralds nature best
Majestic Oak of ageless time
The Mother's eager quest
To hold open arms so wide
To nurture all she grows
To kiss the sky with open lips
With timeless love she flows

Oaks are special, but I'm for rich variety, too. People here in Houston think that the only good tree is a live oak. They are driving out the native loblolly pine, pin oak, post oak, and many other trees native to the piney woods.

Susan, such a beautiful tribute to the stately oak. We had many such nurturing giants on our property when I was a child. It is funny how we get to think of them as living/breathing beings when we are young. They provide us with a world within a world. Your ode was very well written.

Loved the ending. Beautifully done.
