My Computer Match
I started writing poetry
long after my wife had died.
I didn't know if I could do it,
cause of course, I'd never tried.
Her passing left a hole in my world,
as you can well imagine.
Oh, I tried to carry on,
I just couldn't give it any passion.
She was really my life partner,
we shared all of our decisions.
Life seemed so much harder
under these new conditions.
I was lucky, I guess,
cause I had many a loyal friend.
Always another adventure
after each adventure would end.
And, I had several new companions,
guess I was considered a catch,
but never truly a partner,
seemed I never met my MATCH.
One day I turned in my notice,
she'd been gone for over two years
Seemed I'd lost my motivation
and I no longer craved the cheers.
My boys were on their own,
they'd both moved out of state.
Finally, during a month long visit,
I thought I'd try to change my fate.
I packed bag and baggage,
rented out my home.
Rented from a nice young gal,
who was living all alone.
For a while I was content.
Everything was new.
Keeping your mind occupied
is the best thing you can do.
Life began to have new meaning,
I was actually having fun,
but even in my wildest dreams
I knew she was not the one.
I was nearly fifty and
she wanted to have a child.
Even in my wildest days,
I wasn't quite that wild.
We went in separate directions.
She later became a bride.
It must have been our destiny,
cause neither of us cried.
I met another lady,
It's lonely being alone.
She was really different,
liked to smoke a bone.
We spent time together
had a lot of fun,
but I knew for the long term
she was likely not the one.
Her brother was my best friend,
we hung out a lot.
Even after she and I parted,
he often slept on my cot.
He became fatally ill
and during his treatment time,
she and I were together a lot
we even shared a little wine.
One thing led to another,
we got together now and then.
We both were wandering aimlessly,
down that same road again.
Those days are now long past,
water over the damn.
I still see her out sometimes,
but she's no longer in my plans.
One day on my computer,
a POPUP came on my screen.
It talked about MATCH.COM
and locals, possibly looking for me.
I never thought I'd try it,
but my interest had been peaked.
Got a WINK from a wonderful lady
saying I might be whom she seeked.
We traded emails for quite some time,
then decided we should meet.
She suggested we go for ice cream,
so we could each take a little peek.
Now we're together often,
we like to dance at Karaoke.
Neither of us sing,
but for us, that's "Okie Dokie"
We've gone on a cruise together
and to a wedding out of state.
We kinda looked at that,
like it was a month long date.
We just celebrated 1 full year,
we might be together to stay.
Neither of us has wavered
and we're still together today.
So, thank you MATCH.COM
for that POPUP on my screen.
it might be the first I've ever gotten
that didn't make me just want to scream.
