Fiction Writing

Some time ago Janna Hill and I exchanged thoughts on several subjects, but primarily about Fiction writing. It prompted me to jot down these thoughts, which eventually became this poem. “I write because it’s fun and because I enjoy it. For me at least, when it becomes work it’s time to call it a day. From the very beginning historical writing was too much like work. I cling tightly to my ‘POETIC LICENSE’ rights.”

 

FICTION WRITING
 
Fiction writing is so much fun,
it never gets my goat,
so often times I remind myself
with a mental sticky note.
 
With fiction, there are no rules,
making it harder to resist.
You can write whatever you want,
no boundaries exist.
 
When writing epitaphs, true stories,
biography’s and such,
seems a number of rules apply,
you can’t embellish as much.
 
Although I don’t confine myself
to only fiction writing,
it’s where I spend the bulk of my time
cause I find it more exciting.

brilliant, and so very very true, I haver written a few historically acurate poems, but like you I love the fictional ones because it allows you to just let your imagination run wild,

Every time I try to write a “true” story I find that I am bombarded all sides about the “truth” of it. You are right. Fiction is a whole lot easier and more fun to write because you don't have to be beholden to the Editors of Good Write.
