Another installment from the saga titled “WANDERIN & WONDERIN.” This poem was written on behalf of the main character in that yet to be completed saga. It’s strictly a FICTIONAL RECONNOITERING, open for interpretation.

Quoting the Wanderin Man, “I guess I’ve prob’ly writ half a dozen poems bout this ol buddy of mine.  He’s a colorful ol cuss an he don’t much mind me a writin bout him, so he’s kinda an easy target.  He ain’t got no religion an he’d be first to tell ya so.  We’d been watching a TV show about the days of the  wild west an the building of the railroad.  In it, the preacher is a fer piece from a righteous man.  This here gunman comes to him fer a few Godly words, just as the preacher was disposin of the body of a man he had just murdered.  He says to the gunman, “go with the hate son, go with the hate.”

Well, that got us to talkin,,,, My buddy says, ‘A preacher preaches whatever he wants to preach an he’s a preachin to a big congregation.  Who regulates him?  How kin everything he preaches possibly apply to everybody?

“After that conversation, I tried to git his thoughts down on paper and this here was the result.”

PREACHIN

He’s a preachin to the deaf,
preachin to the blind…..
he’s a preachin to all who’ll listen….
bout whatever’s on his mind.

He’s a preachin bout the devil,
preachin bout our sins,
preachin bout our mistakes
sayin don’t ever make ’em agin.

He’s a preachin to the choir,
preachin to the saints,
preachin with all his might
to those who kin an cain’t.

He preaches down the middle,
to the left and to the right,
He preaches on the weekend
an again on Wednesday night.

He preaches agin makin moonshine
an agin us drinking gin.
Seems he preaches the same ol message
time an time agin.

He’s a preachin with a purpose
trying to change our mind,
preachin bout la de da,
sayin seek an ye shall find.

I’ve seen the way he works,
I’ve been behind his door.
He talks about our way of life
then lives his like a whore.

He performs his service
then he passes his plate.
It’s no different than that whore
after every single “date.”

The bartender serves me wisdom
as he shares his prophetic words,
but the difference is the bartender
serves better seconds an thirds.

Preacher’s keep on preachin,
sinners keep on sinnin,
that collection plate keeps comin round,
seems someone must be winnin.

“He’s a preachin to the deaf,
preachin to the blind…”
He’s now preachin to a non believer,
who just won’t take the time.

Hot damn! You hit the spot! Preachers ain't nothing but whores. Sucking off the populace for a little, momentary satisfaction. You're right, bartenders and whores are better and cost less. As usual, this is a damn good write.

An especially good installment Dick. When it comes to preachers the bigger they are the harder they fall. Patrick

Haven't been inside a church since my hated mother died. Can't remember the last time I prayed. The hell with all the goddamn hypocrites!
