In a family we don't all get along and at times things can get frustrating. I've learned to be around physically but not there mentally, with a smile. Louie Anderson, the comedian quotes something similar to this in his book about family, "if you only have two hours coping ability, don't try to stay the full four hours." I've learned to leave mentally while standing right beside.

Standing right beside,
in your vision I hide.
Sure I'm there,
still in your atmosphere.
In the simmering heat,
I move to a
place more sweet.

My body stands,
this mind closed
to outside demands.
Get this hunch,
out to lunch.
My ears
hear you talking,
this brain
moved on walking.

You can't follow,
with an attitude hollow.
If you shine no sun,
this brain moves on the run.
I may seem in a daze,
just my coping ways.

G

It is the best way to handle those difficult situations sometimes. When it is family that is involved often the only option is checking out.
Take care,

Physically and mentally I moved away from family over 20 years ago... but with friends, co-workers, etc. this is a method of survival for me...

True - SO true! I have some family members who send me into "another zone." I truly can relate to this! Nail on the head, Grady. -- Jeff
