Covering Up Pain and Suffering

(It's one of those facts of life, your attitude after the fact really makes a difference on how much sunshine you will have in your life.)

Seems like everytime I turned around in my life, especially when I was young, something bad was happening to me

I use to ask myself, is there ever going to be a time when I can be free, forget the pain and be full of glee, this I really want Lord can't you see

For years I bumped my head against the wall, stumbling only to fall, one episode after another, I said dam, why should I bother, seems like all my life I'm going to need my mother

I figured one day I would have to grow up and face the fact, life is just full of pain and suffering, I'll just have to suffer

Finally after I left home and got out on my own, everything seems to have gotten worse in my life

Everyday just seemed to be full of all types of personal strife

During this time I was drinking alcohol beer and wine, for the joy, the ploy, to soak up as much misery as I could

Seems like the more I soaked myself with the drink, the problems spread and stank, man it was like walking the plank of wood

Then one day I took a real good look in the mirror and I really didn't like what I saw or where I seemed to be headed in my precious time

This is the point when I just simply put my foot down before I ended up in trouble with the crime

One of the best things I ever did was unsoak myself from the alcohol bottle, then I took my foot off the trottle

My next move was to give myself an attitude adjustment before life really gave me a startle

What I did was flip the coin in my attitude and behavior, and started praying for peace and understanding from my God, Lord and Savior

I simply quit allowing my darkside and negative attitude to run the show and control my behavior

If my negative mind thought something like, "man you are dumb and stupid," I would replace it with a better thought of positive, influence, like, " man you are the smartest person in the world

I stuck with this good thought no matter how much I messed up or tripped and my world began to shape up like a precious pearl

Making it more simple, I really coped an attitude with myself and refused to allow the negative me back in the door

Oh sure, flipping the coin wasn't easy and I'm still broke and poor

I still have a shit load of problems, in fact I added some, like getting married to my wife

However living on the positive side of life really makes a difference in how I feel and handle the strife

Many years have passed now and I remind myself that it never was the problems that caused me most of my sorry, it was the stupidity, the negative attitude, things like being too mean, man was I green

After I lighten up on my stupid attitudes and behavior, I've had more joy and happiness then I ever seen

Grady you are not alone....many people....some that I know...turn to the bottle..it always amazed me that they would think the answer was there...when all the while it was right in their heart...all they had to do was open the door to Jesus...I am so very happy that you found your answer...I loved reading this great expression of sorrow and Light...Floria

Fabulous job Grady. I think we all have felt that way a time or two. Check out my short story link on today's poetry page if you want to know my form of sheer sadness and blessed recovery from it. Have a great day.
Peace and Love........
