Facing our dark side may be difficult but until we do, life could be a little more difficult.

I need some fresh air,
to help my head clear,
or do I need a clear head,
to enjoy the fresh air.

Many times I took a break,
or was it a break?
The shadows of my mind,
still lurked to remind.
On vacation and running,
chased by darkness,
frightened by fear,
all darkness still so near.
Escaping seemed futile,
still I ran the mile.
Refuse to give in,
strengthen myself to win.

No matter how strong,
the darkness still sang its song.
"I'm here,
you can never
get rid of me,
your soul will never be free."

As the years past by,
I continued to defy.
I continued to fight,
to make my life right,
until I changed my
method of operating,
darkness kept on relating.

One day,
the dark shadow rumbled,
in I tumbled,
refused to run,
dived right to the core,
started evening the score.
The shadow said hello,
I'm part of you silly fellow,
It's about time
you took time,
to face me.

Fear of myself
was the problem,
refusing to understand
my dark sides demand.
Finally understanding,
made my life less demanding.
Then I positively
started expanding.

With my darkness in check,
I started to correct.
Still not perfect,
but at least in check.

I thought I was doing a double take when I saw the name of your poem as it was announced.

Good job! - We bear the same message.

"Believe in yourself" is the title of Chapter 25, FACING ME, my autobiography. I see it is your focus, too.

If we both keep on persisting to share our discovery hrough our mutual courage and willingness to share, we WILL make a difference! March on!

Grady.. This I can relate to... This is me.. maybe most of us.. I ran from myself.. my memories .. just decided to create a new me.. the one without all the past .. AND IT WORKED .. for almost 15 years.. Except at night.. except in my dreams.. But my waking moments I was this normal everyday person with no dark secrets. no shadows over my head..until one day..in an instant it seems..it all came crashing upon me like a boulder fro heaven maybe hell.. I am better now.. dealing with things..i never wanted to.. perhaps it is best..perhaps it will be my demise.. time will tell.. This is a stark reminder.. To thine own self be true!!
