Joining AD,
was like signing up
to be a sailor at sea,
falling in the water with
the sharks eating at me.
Not having perfect
swimming abilities,
almost drowning
from the hostilities.
Grady, Grady
your pen stroke is weak,
misspell one word
your future is bleak.
Still I swim the sea,
and the sharks
kept on chasing me.
The longer I swim,
the more I learned
from them.
Barely staying above,
I refused their shove .
As I swim AD's oceans,
I observed
my predators motions.
Big attitudes
seem to prevail,
rather than
writing abilities that excel.
Words are like birds,
attitudes stick around
in herds.
Strong attitudes keep us
from going under,
after we mess up
or either blunder.
Swimming abilities
will keep us alive,
so we'll continue to
learn and thrive.
There isn't a sailor
on this ship,
that signed up just
for the trip.
We all wanted
to venture out,
explore what this
writing thing is about.
Feed our fantasies
of word,
speak out
and
be heard.
Express our feelings,
enhance our thrillings.
One thing about AD,
you'll find out
if you belong at sea.
Some will have you
walking the plank,
sooner or later you'll end up
taking a drink,
swimming with the sharks,
maybe taking long walks
in the parks,
rethinking your position,
cancelling your mission,
Or
standing your ground,
refusing to be knocked
down.

I have walked the poetry site plank several times,I can't spell and have strong opinions so bug many by just being me and the sharks love my flesh.I am self taught (left school at 15 years)and in private life I'm very shy and reserved, too shy in fact, the type who goes red just easily. The knocks I have had writing on the web are amongst my life's greatest blessings .I am so thankful to everyone who has knocked me,they are the ones who've made me tough and strong, even enhancing my private life.Once (before joing poetry sites like this one) I would never speak up anywhere about my view ,now ,due to my experience of having to get up over and over again from the spills Ihave had on line I have gained the courage to speak up in private life, not a lot,but more than ever before, for me it has been such an added bonus to my quality of living.I just can't believe the extra confidence this site and others like this have given me,I am endebted to all in this poetic cyber sea,but mostly,I am endebted to the sharks, your poem says exactly how I feel, thanks for it,it's excellent!
Interesting take on AD. I've found the sharks to be quite benign here. Those members who like my work are quite complimentary, and I suspect those who haven't liked it in the past (probably many, many more) simply don't visit my works anymore rather than write nasty critiques.
All in all, it's a very calm and ordered sea I find myself sailing on, and most of my fellow passengers quite well mannered.
