Quandary

I never knew what to with my love.
Those I wished most to help, naturally
had their own destiny and wanted
nothing to do with my words.

Few wish to pattern their lives
on the old stories anymore.

And my story is old as the hills,
and not what they wanted to hear.

I never knew what to do with my love.

So, failing to simply express it,
I bottled it up as if storing it away
for a better day -- a day I prayed
would come.

The prayer continues and the solitude
that accompanies it in this strange
world we have created -- as strange
as we are:

creatures of love and ignorance.
