FEW MONTHS AGO I SHARED WITH YOU A STORY ABOUT A SOMALI POET AND HIS FAMILY WHO TRAVELED TO THE UNITED STATES AFTER RELATIVES IN THE US SPONSORED THEM TO RESETTLE IN AMERICA. UNFORTUNATELY ON 21 OCTOBER 2005,ONLY AFTER A MONTH OR SO IN THE STATES, YAMYAM DIED IN A CAR ACCIDENT IN COLOMBUS OHIO. DEATH ROBBED A HERO. MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE. AMEN. IN MY YESTERDAY'S POEM "MILKING DISORDER" I WAS SEEING DEATH PEEPING FROM BEHIND THE WALLS OF MY WORDS, ESPECIALLY WHEN I SAID "I MUST FIND ANOTHER WORLD TO LIVE IN" ANYWAY IT WAS MY FRIEND WHO WAS GOING TO THAT OTHER WORLD, NOT ME ACTUALLY BUT I AM READY TO JOIN HIM ANY TIME ALLAH ASKS ME SO.
TIME HAS COME FOR HIM TO GO
NOT FOR A BREAK BUT FOR GOOD
HE HAS ACCOMPLISHED HIS TASK
OR MAY BE HE WAS STILL MIDWAY
HIS CONTRACT WITH LIFE EXPIRED
HE COULDN'T STAY A MINUTE LONGER
HE SAID ODE TO THE SHADOW WORLD
HE MADE HIS WAY TO THE REAL WORLD
GOOD BYE OUR POET. GOOD BYE HERO
YOU LEFT BEHIND A LIVING WISDOM
I'm sorry, Abdi-noor, to hear of Yamyam's passing. Now: the greatest thing you can do him is to continue writing and speaking out for peace, not only for your nation, but for all of us.
Abdi Noor, I'm sorry for your personal loss and also for the worlds loss of a fellow poet! He is in the better place , but still you will miss him! Tis is a wonderful tribute you have paid him!
