In the old barbaric ages people's lives had been dominated by superstition. History shows that those communities residing along the coastal areas of Eastern Africa used to kill a girl to satisfy the Gods lest they continue sending powerful winds to destroy the people and their properties. Such atrocities against women used to take place in Somalia which enjoys a long coastal line of more than 2000Kms. Winds usually start on December of every year and last until end of February or beginning of March and the season is widely known in Mogadishu as ISTAQFUROW. These winds make the coastal towns and cities covered with an envelope of dust.

Fear had gripped them tightly
Time to appease Gods arrived

Animals had been slaughtered
The sea drank unsullied blood

The harsher the winds raged on
The Gods didn’t feel satisfied

A human blood was now offered
A girl was brought at the seaside
A man chopped off her little head
The life of a virgin was thus taken

Abdi-Noor, I am so saddened to read of the horrific things people are capable of. This story has been retold so many times; Homer spoke of similar bloodshed in the Iliad. West and East, North and South, must learn to let go of the sword, for there is no God in steel or bloodshed.
