Backward Eyes

Your eyes are on backwards;
always looking in.

Your heart has been misplaced.

I cannot find your hands in the touch.

Your face is many shades
confusing me.

I have sent birds
looking for your Soul.

How could you unlove me?

I hear your foot-falls
move toward my door,
hesitate,
reverse, and walk away.

You start to call
but my phone
does not ring.

Your kiss
slides off
off my face.

How can you not love me?

Can my story be untold;
my heart unbeat for you?

How can this be?

All this
has rushed in from
the Bad Future
which has ruined
the tiny present
we once had.

I struggle here
trying to make my story
not real;

whose ending
sees
me the lone
solider
on the battle field
dead
but not
fallen
down yet,

wounded,
and confused,

contemplating that resurrection
Time grants to the human soul
because the soul never dies;
nor shall mine.

Your poem is ridiculously true. Over and over failure looms, and mostly in human endeavors of the heart. No sense gambling on love. I'd rather be home eating a pizza.
