Cyclic Depression and I'm All Out of Staples

I.

I'm holding on
  to this string
  I pulled off a 50-lb bag
of dog food.  I saved it
for such an occasion as this.
  See, I knew it was coming;
I always know when it's coming,
  but the trouble is
  the string is unraveling --
  getting thinner by the hour.

II.
  They're burying me
  under papers
  and dust,
  old clothes
  and cracked photos,
  teddy bear heads
  and bent spoons.
  They're burying me:
  they're burying me --
  and I'm not dead yet.

III.
I burnt off half the fingernail
  on my left hand pointer;
  I don't know how
or when, but the angle is unnerving
so I can understand why it bothers them,
though it is a lovely shade of brown.
They keep asking (warning?) me to stop crying --
I would swear I stopped days ago.

I, you are so, well, humbling as a Poet yes, and this one reached
so far into my gut and well...Haunting, yes, and damn, how even the structure makes it all work and then some, see? I, it just Got to me, been there???
(((YOU)))
and yes, it is outsanding, oh yes!
Thanks, Pat,

Patricia, I just love the title of this piece! Terrific irony! The rest of the poem is tremendously expressive and artful and structured brilliantly --- truly an outstanding write!

Pat, depression bad - me good. You smart - you sweet. I had the same problem dear, but I saved the dog food in the bag. Quite a mess.
p.s.
I ate the strings. (That is how I got strung out)

You capture so well this human affliction, Patricia. I am all too familiar with it even if it is not within myself directly. Love and peace to you. Regis

Pat, it's always a gift to read your work!
Funny how poets can run the gamut of manic thought
while still being sane enough to know we may
belong in the funny farm;-)

Reality from the womb of the soul in a "Cyclic Depression and I'm All Out of Staples"...

"Cyclic Depression and I'm All Out of Staples" shows true feelings under emotions of a god that lost the map to go back home.

Profound writing to strike deep thoughts.

I Salute You, Sublime Poet!

Depression is such a lost feeling. We all experience it from time to time, some more often than others.
You've expressed it very well with words. Lisa

Interesting write and perspective. And now I know why I have an entire drawer full of those 50-lb dog food bag strings.
