Enigma to My Piece

I beheld the midnight glow

Upon incessant waves

Bathing true loves, letting go

To bid a morrow’s grace

While the transience of time

Can rout the headstrong will

Ticks slow to beating life

Beckons as it lingers still

With head rested on a palm

Eyes wandering in space

Not taking notice of

The hour turning late

Never once have I

Clasped tight an idle pen

To learn it cannot write

My feeling’s true intent

Have I been misunderstood

For deeming love could wait?

For falling quite too soon

Yet having said too late?

Allow me to recapture

Some moments to undo

The silencing of raptures

Of plights and hidden truths

To ease the pompous heft

My mind is comfort of

And have the heart confess

Of whom it fell to love

As if whispering could wane

This burning in my cheeks

Then speak, I’d not, in vain

Of feelings indiscreet

For such mortal ecstasy

Madden yet a heart of stone

Posing every fallacy

That stirs to set alone

Except that you and I

Are as true in daylight beam

As we are within the night

Dancing in and out of dreams

I never thought to care for

One restless night ahead

Nor realized I have slumbered

Upon an empty bed

Till by fairest hap, I met

The man I stood before

His torrid kiss, his scent

That left me wanting more

But what in love assures us

To be without a doubt?

When it seems we have it all

We are utterly without

Though in a mattered sense

The meld of bliss and blues

Are times in goodness spent

And well-spent loving you

You may be swift to hinder

The plea for dulcet words

As spoken, they have rendered

A stubborn reign of hurt

And your fingers have, through years,

Clinched yet to slip and slide

Unto hands that wrought up tears

…now fastened yours to mine.

I know it won’t be smiles all

Joy bears with her the strife

But I’ll withstand her rise and fall

Just to have you in my life

So take my hand before

The next advent of dawn

Let me settle where you are

When day has come and gone

For here in the salvation

Of a pivotal feat

I found the sterling half

Of enigma to my piece.
