An original poem, in memory of my grandmother Elma (1905-2003)
-----------------
I went to your funeral
and thought that I knew you.
Who are you now?
I discovered a poet,
a woman of words
a woman of cares
beyond the loving cook I thought I knew.
Why did you not share these things?
Like Emily Dickinson,
who kept things closed in a box,
you kept things closed in your heart,
close to your heart,
a secret between yourself and the universe
that I only just discovered.
Share your words with eternity now,
so that when I arrive
all will be filled with them.
My words are so useless now.
Good questions. Some people never share their special treasures/pleasures. They may well enjoy them all the more, because they are their secret love. Very nice poem!
Lovely thoughts. I had an uncle who passed away. He'd been a laborer all his life. Quiet, not much education. When I helped go through his things, I was amazed at the library of classics and works of philosphy he had amassed. Each book had been read many times, with favorite passages marked. It taught me to look beyond the visual. My condolences on your loss. She sounds like a dear, beautiful soul.
