Awake yet asleep at last

A long night hath passed
lying in this fitful state of being
for sleep is denied me
as I dared to dream

He whom my soul doth love
so willingly desperate
hath taken wing
I know not if his face I'll ever see again

Arising from a melancholy bed
donning an old tattered housecoat
outside the ground is crisp
crackles neath barefoot folly

O'er the bridge geese flap and honk
as though to say morning mistress
early peaks of dawn emerge
through sunless shadows fleeing

My heart gives rise to a flutter
as through the dewy mist laden field
the dream that was my midnight foe
comes striding gallantly ontoward

This is a dream it must be
I dare not contradict the notion
though heart is pounding hard
like it must escape it's surrounds

No tis nor true
I will not believe
I cannot see
suns rays encompass me

It is not a dream
though it is
my eyes do not decieve
as his stride now resembles an hart

All at once his hand grabs mine
rays of sun shine pon our chilled faces
he renews the sentiments again
I had so foolishly spurned

Pride hath gone where it belong
his lips brush close to mine
all that remains is for me to say
Yes, yes, I will with no disdain

I scarcely can believe my ears
as I tremble over these words
did I just agree to marry
must of, as his lips meet mine

Warmed by golden hues of love
as sunlight prisms encircle
arching approval with dearest consent
I am awake yet asleep at last!
