History of the Key is a follow up to the poem “the Key” (Please read it before attempting this).
Amina’s grandmother is sixty nine. Grandmother is the owner of the Key. Grandmother has been guiding the Key with her life since 1948 when she was evicted from her village and home, a spot that now houses immigrant Jews from Europe. Grandma was ten then when the responsibility of guiding the Key fell on her lap. Having lost her dear father and brothers in the carnage that preceded the eviction, the Key was the only thing left with Grandmother of her home and family life. The Key has a history of surviving several Israeli house demolitions in the occupied territories.
With Key Grandma is iron willed
With Key Amina is a hopeful heart
Key is power outlasting all...
Fathers, brothers, husbands
and village loads of people
Key is proud of years lived
in laughter and happier days
A time of cheer and plump babies
And children naughty at play
Times alien to the youth of today.
Key writes with elegance beyond compare
Key is the key, say no to despair.
Very powerful write. Keep writing about Amina. I think the key will guide us to where the stolen treasure of history was buried. Thanks Safi for this wonderful poem.
