How it was...

Poem Artwork

Reminiscences...
Leisurely gait
Cares gentle like a mother’s warmth.

Blowing like a monsoon wind
Reminiscences pervade the traveler’s path...
A parable now generations down the road.

Pure soil, untainted by a neighbor’s blood
Voices of gaiety emitting from a friend’s door.

Nightingales moving to Xamari beat
Muezzins ushering in the Lord’s: Come to pray.

Siesta for the sunshine weary
Children tugged in...unwillingly.

Sweethearts sleepy from a day’s work
Windows venting
The Indian Ocean breeze
Mushy carpets vying for playful feet.

Mogadishu Times, those days of yore
Sights and Sounds of a nation’s lore
Smartly dressed women galore.

Manly voices carrying weight
Firm clasp in the father’s grasp
Harmony, order
Nights romantic
and Normal days.

Those Fridays at Xaraf
The question for her fellow...
Cinema Nasr or Hodon?

Safi, This reminds me home. I can feel and smell Mogadisho through your poem, even though I don't remember that much from it.
Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Much Love

Warm memories of Mogadishu past, paint this beautiful poem and for just a moment releive the heartache of the way she is today. The deepest sadness is with the children who have no memories of the beauty that once graced her.
Take care,
Sherry

Xaraf is not in Mogadishu. It is 1200 hundred kilometers away near Berbera. So what is it you are reminiscing?

Nostalgic reminiscence reviving peaceful "Mogadishu Times". Outstanding inspiring story-poem.

I salute You, Poet.
