It's wrong time of the year, I know, but posting poems from 1997.

Poem Artwork

Ron and Roger Enjoying Snow at 5

First Snow

I looked out on the clear and cold,

and found snow falling down,

in hypnotic rhythm, without a sound.

Without persistence or patience,

first snow soon covered the ground.

Strange, it conjured up warm memories,

of childhood's first snow;

when snow falls and then,

with a soft feel under feet,

forcing me to go walking,

in the clear morning air,

through autumn made neat.

And, white, oh so white,

to trim the trees and make,

the long night bright.

First snow was always the best;

we would forgot for the moment,

that the long winter ahead,

would give us a test.

As we looked back on fresh tracks,

marking our way,

we couldn't remember,

over warm drinks at sunset,

when we'd had a better day.

Your poem reminds me so much of my childhood in northern Alberta, Canada. I loved winter even though on some days, it could be brutally cold. The moon shining on recently fallen snow way magical. Thank you for sharing. Love and peace to you,

Regis.

This is so enjoyable. The best times of a child. Takes me back to happy days.
Best regards,

I love this poem. So nostalgic and lovely. Snow always makes me think of childhood and home. Much enjoyed, Ron.

There is nothing as delightful as snow in the mind of a child, beautifully expressed here in this "wintry" poem.
