I can see a fiddler outside a ristorante
He's got a big nose like Jimmy Durante
Birds at the water-pump, I drink with the least
I'm hungry for pasta but miss the feast
Next time, I'll sail up the Grand Canal
Next time, I'll wear a mask at Carnival

You have a great penchant and talent for story telling. When I read this piece, I feel as though I am there with you. Nice contrast in the line "I drink with the least" as well was fine rhymes. Good effort!
... No wonder I have had you on my mind a lot over the past couple of weeks, our Ken, if THIS is the poem you've currently flipped to the top! My son, Georgio, is off to Venice for a semester come October and I'm off to visit for a few days in November... not quite on a shoestring, I have to admit, but this backpacker's delight sure whets my appetite, not having been to this city-on-a-swamp before. I will just have missed Halloween, but guess masks will still be populare, no?! With all that's goin on in the world these days, I do hope you are keeping safe and sound wherever you are... so where's that, currently? Your little protege's doin OK atdemo, poetry-wise: another one of only six poems to appear in Mslexia's New Writing this quarter, so not bad! :)) Have you translated any of your work into Mandarin yet? I read Kathleen Jamie's Skeins O' Geese in a Scots accent to my Book Club gathering yesterday, so they could "feel" poetry rather than understand it! I wonder what your Baron In The Trees would sound like in Chinese?! Luvin ya always, Kornetto Kate xx
This is another fantastic poem! St. Mark's Square is lively, just as you had mentioned in your poem. I can envision you drinking from the fountain, or should I say, fontana? There is nothing better than the smell of cheese in Venice, and it is obvious that you have savored every moment in Venice. I hope that you had the chance to eat a mouth watering plate of pasta!
