I stood outside Carrick Castle
and saw the statue of King William
(forged in Dublin and sent north).
He looked overdressed,
in a coat too big for him,
a long sword at his side.
The stance was combative,
thin lips grimly set,
like a wee half-cut man
on a Saturday night
challenging all-comers
to a fight.
