The Drone

All day it hovers over the city
over depots and plants
over the municipal magnificence of Man,
the town hall, the bank.

In my opinion, said the crow,
it's gathering information; on who or what,
at this point, I don't exactly know.

The magpies and swallows,
the blackbirds and sparrows
are keeping an eye on the thing ...

I flew up to say hello
but could not get a chirp or a cheep
from that "bird" - just a metallic beep!

There it is above the pylons
above the roosting starlings!

The Canada geese and the seagulls
have seen it out on the ocean, my god!

Let's hope it gets sucked
into an airplane's engine
or gets whacked
by of one of those new-fangled
wind turbines.
