Who Would Steal A Poem



People steal paintings, rip them from walls and frames.

Taken from the Louvre, the Mona Lisa
bundled into a van ending up God knows where,
on the banks of the Hudson or the Thames.

But who would steal a poem?
There's no money in poetry.
Maybe a Shakespeare Folio first edition;

look under car bonnets
for the dark lady of the sonnets
or the handsome violet-eyed boy!
