I think of Kyoto and hot springs
Walking through gardens, smiling at passers-by
Watching goldfish swimming in a small pool
outside a wooden house,
the tea ceremony and cycling out
to a rural village
where Venetia teaches English school
keeping her English wool jumpers
in a drawer,
careful not to let them bobble,
washing them with herbal concoctions.
