Francis Jammes


I want to climb the Pyrenees, meet a poet or two;
Francis Jammes sitting quietly in his room.

French provincial life and Our Lady of Lourdes,
surrounded by his voluminous books,

the ladder to heaven, a lonely climb,
but I'll smoke my pipe liked Francis used to do

and look for an old oak chest in the market
to put all my best thoughts and poems into.
