The age of faith, those rose windows
The stained-glass so illuminating
The saints, sad-eyed, even in summer.
Transfigurations, vaulted ceilings,
Eyes open in the world to come
Notre Dame and Chartres cathedral.
Trade your old shoes for slippers,
Gothic love rivaling Quasimodo's
Though a monstrous mangelwurzel.
