I saw a cat one day
Beyond the back fence
Separated by wire
Yet close as a kiss
It meowed when it saw me
(I think it wanted to play?)
I barked, off it ran
Yet returned the next day
day after day
We played this strange game
But one morn when I barked
softly it meowed but did not dart away
I stared in confusion
At this new twist to our fun
As if the cat was saying
This time it's your turn
I edged ever closer
My nose to the fence
And to my surprise
The cat, without hesitation
Dragged it's wet tongue
'cross my snout
Separated by wire
Yet close as a kiss
We've met by the fence
Every day since
I can't think of friend
I'd rather be with
Dog and cat, cat and dog
Together, by the fence
