I work 3 weeks a month in a small town 3.5 hours away from my home and my wife in Denver. Then I'm home for 1 week and back at work for another three weeks.
The Short One Waits
Her wild love for me, like a beacon or a torch
The short one waves good-bye from the lonely porch
Leaving Denver is never easy but I have to go
The long drive south and east always seems too slow.
I like my other home that keeps me for 21 days
People, warm and kind, in wonderful loving ways.
They think they need me to lead them somewhere
If they look within they’d find they’re already there
But the short one with eyes so clear and bright
Is just too far away, out of my reach on the darkest night.
