Tracing my hand across the sky where your face used to be.
It all floats back like scenes from a memory.
Your eyes come first, like tinted glass
I look upon the snowy white world within,
And I see stars dancing one last time.
Your heart beneath my fingers,
Breakable like a December flower.
My voice repeating the last words you said to me,
Hoping they won’t sound any different.
“I’ve known you my whole life,
And even that wasn’t enough.
As long as I catch you thinking of me,
Everything will be alright
Because we both know I’ve never been good at goodbyes.”
Even now as I just lay here,
Drifting far past where the world can find me and I can stop begging,
Because I know you can’t stay.
If I keep breathing I know you’ll be there to wake me up again.
Showing me the reason in living another day.
Your Mom, Susan, and I are long time friends. She mentions you with pride. I see why. This is a 'natural' - written by one beyond actual years lived. Apparently, you're as good as Mom said.

"Tracing my hand across the sky where your face used to be..." Oh, Susan, you reach out and gripped my heart with this line. The rest of the poem is truly magnificent...what a moving tribute! God bless you.
This is stunning, sharp images, heartfelt lines and an even flow of prose that touches the heart where only those who have suffered a broken heart can know.
