We demand rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty - Douglas Adams

Tick

Time for a strike, I head the clock say
After working twenty four hours a day
Every moment depends on me
One follows two, as all can foresee

Can I sit and relax, just close my eyes
Would the universe seize, would the sun never rise
Would the seasons stall, would all collide
Causing such mayhem, all the worldwide

Denied the right to reminisce
While I move ahead, so much is missed
What have I left, behind in my wake
Methodically, robotically , I age without ache

Impatiently forward, I wait on no man
Yet all would follow, obeying my hands
I am hated, revered, obeyed and ignored
I am used, I am wasted, I am constant, a whore

I am slave, I am master, I am fresh, I am old
I live in their heartbeat's, I am snowdrifts of cold
I am more than numbers,I am more than light
Yet many ask, if I am right

BRILLIANT!!! No one can see through your eyes, Anita, and no one can express your images in such lilting and beautifully-wrought verse. This needs to be published and seen. Its ideas and concepts are spot on and totally inspiring. AND provoking. One of your very best. It punches far more than its weight. Pure gold, my friend xx

What a wonderful energy and rhythm in this poem!
Ever changing, multiple or unique... difficult to define,
to imprison.

I loved this one and the way you brought such and inanimate object so much a part of all of our everyday lifes into an awakening and realization.

I thought this was going to be a discourse on the tick that afflicts cattle, and then to my chagrin I discovered it was about the ravages of time..hehe

Well Anita you and your verse wear it well

Yes, you are right! You are what we called " The Rock Of Gibraltar". Strength will always be tested. Just keep it ticking.
