Self is the only prison that can ever bind the soul.

~~CARVED AND KNIFED BY ART~~
THE MARIONETTE
Secret soul in limb of wood, carved by human hands
Adorned symbolic garment, moved by stringed commands
Dancing for the piper, bowing for the crowds
From the hands, that hold the strings...freedom is allowed
Smile set and timeless, painted gaze endures
Swaying to the music...both wild and demure
Coolest skin of deadwood, carved and knifed by art
Tranquil in the shadows....sap of bleeding heart
After final curtain, boxed and out of sight
Locked away in darkness, days roll into nights
Can anybody see her tear as she is left alone?
With splintered hand....I touch my eye....because it is my own
Aah, I like the twist at the end. I wasn't expecting it. Great descriptions along the way, too, Anita. Every time I read you, I feel a parallel; our styles are very similar, I think. It's nice to see you posting more regularly. Hugs,
Sheila
Marionettes, carved wood, papier mache or human flesh. Manipulated at the puppeteer's will. Which of life's qualities are imbued in their figures? Reflexive actions to the puppeteer's Draconian amusement? Your poem asks many questions makes many poignant statements. It stirs the soul's discontent and offers insight. Love and peace to you my friend. Jon Michael
