Mending Fences

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

I once heard it said that it does no one any good to harbor bitterness toward another, because life's path is uncertain and one day, life may lead you back to that person again. I believe the train of thought to be true , hence the poem. If someone breaks your heart, let go of the pain and forgive them; you never know where life may lead.

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

Letting go of ageless pain
And learning to forgive
Offers a wealth of strength to gain
Throughout the days you’ll live
Your heart will be lightweight and free
When your angst is released
In the end, better off you’ll be
Once your heartache has ceased.

Life is too short to hold a grudge
Regardless of the cause
When anger builds like river sludge
You should take time to pause
Then, ask yourself, if rage is worth
The damage it will do
To the balance of good on earth
If bitterness claims you.

Letting go of timeless grief
And mending damaged fences
Offers the soul needed relief
Once true healing commences
The outcomes might remain the same
But you’ll feel better, still
A lifetime spent assigning blame
Can only lead downhill.

I forgave my first husband for divorcing me. He never forgave me though. Holding grudges is no fun and not meant to be. God wants our forgiveness for others. He forgives us too. Isn't that great to know that?

I truly believe this also. You just never know what is going to happen and anger and pain, though necessary, are a pain in themselves. It takes a lot of energy that can be spent elsewhere. Excellent write. Liz

And sometime life is too long, the grievances too great and the capacity of forgiving too little.
But, then again, there are people like the author, with an indefatigable optimism on the power of overcoming our shortcomings.
Excllent writing!

Wonderfully put. I have always said that if you harbor, hatred, resentment or any negative feelings about another you are hurting none other but yourself.
God Bless,

Wisdom in your words, Jill - and also, how can our Heavenly Father forgive US if WE don't forgive others? Beautifully penned, thank you.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
