A black doughnut melts in the sun,
A hole of wood, too hot to touch,
Before breakfast an early morning run?
I would like that so very much.
The icy water-cools the tube.
Thoughts of liquid ice flowing,
Shorten the walk. On the innertube
Soon to light, anticipating
That two-hour trip down the clear creek.
The slow monotonous walking,
Forever, at the creek, to peek
All Nature quietly talking.
A cold dream, a hot day
“Clouded from my Mind’s Eye,”
I can easily say,
In this cocoon made warm
With blankets and sheets torn.
As I drift off into
That forgotten land known,
To us, only as SLEEP.
