Poem Artwork

Dark gray clouds
Fly low over the Earth,
Pushed by menacing winds
That make the shutters howl.
The eerie sound
Causes the dog to lift her head
With concern;
The Earth is angry,
And she is as aware as me.

Il Padrino has died,
And he left a gaping hole
In the heart of the Earth.
He has given us much:
Enough to fill the hole,
But we are decades away
From understanding his many gifts.

Were I prone
To end of the earth prophecies,
I would say beware;
For surely a man as good as he,
Has prepared the world
For the Lord's return.
Wait and see,
But perhaps you will not wait for long.

Karol Wojtyla came to us
Many years ago,
And naked like all the rest.
My how a lifetime changes things,
And his, more than most.
They'll bury him
Four days from now,
In robes fit for a king,
And no more perfect
Could it be,
After all he has left behind.

Be not afraid, said he,
And afraid, he was not.
He fought so hard
For righteousness,
And traveled far
To know the poor.
The youth,
They called him PaPa,
And he answered them with a smile.
Oh, Karol, we hold you near to us,
And know not how to say
Goodbye.

In my heart I will honor thee,
Until the ending of my days;
Karol Wojtyla of Wadowice,
And John Paul II,
Who you became.
In this troubled world of ours,
You managed to bring some peace,
And love,
And honor,
And truth,
And a caring for the poor.
For every charge you were
Given by the Lord,
You simply said,
Let me give you more.

Godspeed, my brother in Christ.

I don't know how I missed this one--this is one of the best poems I've read about Papa John. A moving, compassionate tribute--bless you

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :(

He will be missed, that's for sure!
