Waltzing Through My Mind

Neglect and betrayal,
Abuses of a different sort,
The perpetrators care either not enough,
Or maybe, not at all.

We have all seen the victims;
Babies and horses,
Lovers remorseless,
And tragically hunted teens.
There are victims of cancer,
And lonely dancers,
Dancing to a silent tune.

There really is no such thing,
Or maybe, that is just how it seems,
But Timmy and Lassie have gone over the hill,
And they have taken with them our dreams.
Now...
There is robbery and thuggery,
Doubt and drudgery,
And daily muders on the screen.

We say that we like to be alone,
And we really don't like to talk on the phone,
But then again, nobody ever calls.
We go to work with a smile each day,
And when they ask us how we are,
We don't know what to say.

Over our shoulders most of us look,
As we grow older and weaker month by month.
The threats are there, I'm sure you're  aware,
But we don't know when our turn will come.

They will be the times of our lives,
The days that we have waited to arrive;
Retirement and a time to rest,
An opportunity to enjoy the best,
That life has for each of us.

I'm looking for peace,
When I go to sleep at night.
I'm looking for safety,
When I catch my flight.
I'm looking for warmth,
In my lover's arms.
I'm hoping for health,
And avoiding harm.
I don't want to be afraid,
At the shopping mall,
And I don't want to be kicked,
When I've been forced to crawl.
I want to know God,
When I kneel to pray.
And when I see his face,
I know what I'll say:
This life has sure been interesting
