I took a long look in the mirror today,
And I felt my resolve,
As it faded away.
Oh, sister, I miss you,
I hope you know,
And there's so much that I want to say,
But as I start, I choke on my words,
Because today is your anniversary day.
It's so hard to believe,
That it's been four years,
There's still a hole in my heart,
And I regularly shed tears,
In the private moments,
When I feel you near.
We have begun to move on;
Mom, Peggy, Bridget, Kitty, Dennis, and Steve,
And some days there are even smiles all around,
But the only real truth, I'm sure you can see,
Is that without you,
We can't be complete.
I hope you've settled in,
And it's as comfortable as I believe,
How is Dad, Aunt Ceil,
Aunt Marty, and Uncle Steve?
We go to the cemetery
As often as we can,
And we place fresh flowers for you to enjoy.
We've each said our prayers,
We've talked and we've sung,
Peggy hangs teddy angels in the tree with love.
You wouldn't believe it,
But Mom finally got sick.
She had an operation in the hospital,
Then went home lickity-split.
At times we worried,
But not as well as you,
For you were the very best worrier,
In this Irish crew.
I could go on and on,
Probably until next year,
But I have responsibilities,
And then there's my career.
But I did want you to know,
Especially today,
That we think of you often,
And nearly always when we pray.
When it comes to sisters,
You were one of the best,
With the finest qualities,
Far above all the rest.
I could extol your virtue,
For a week and a day,
And I couldn't name them all,
But I do have to say,
That I love you and I miss you today.
Peggy
