Snow Day Coming

Poem Artwork

The sky is dark
With the low-lying clouds
Of winter.
And the air is cold,
As I see my breath billowing,
Like a chimney on the roof.
The clouds push eastward,
And you can feel it coming;
The first snow of winter.

Soon there will be a white satin blanket
Upon us,
Muffling all sound,
And making you feel secure,
For if you cannot leave,
Then no one can come in to harm you.

Hot spiced wine,
More of an odiferous delight,
Than taste;
Citrus fruit floating
In a sea of burgundy.

The fire is blazing,
And extra logs are stacked inside,
The smell of elm and cherry
Permeate the house.
It is both sedative,
And aphrodisiac.
We're going to be here awhile,
And will use both
Before it is over.

The sheriff warns the citizens:
"Stay off the roads,
It's not safe
For man or beast",
But my beast and me,
Are making snow angels
In the yard.

Hot chili and hot spiced wine,
Thick socks toasty
By the fire.
We'll have two feet by morning,
The snow dumped on us
Without warning,
And kids enjoy their snow day
In the street.

So much sorrow in the world,
But it seems so far away.
We're safe here, you know,
And for the children,
It's safe to play.
So my wish for all of you,
Please begin without delay,
To make a priceless memory,
And enjoy this beautiful
Snow Day.
