Poem Artwork

I heard your voice on the telephone,
Calling from so far away.
You were soaking wet,
And breathing hard,
And on Christmas,
You were a child once more.

I think of Christmas mornings,
When the two of you were young,
And of the piles of Christmas presents,
Under a live Spruce tree.
Those were the times,
I hope you know,
That are seared into my memory.

But yesterday gave me a start,
And nearly took my breath away,
To hear the excitement in your voice,
The product of a big kid toy,
I have to say that it made my day.

So as you ride along,
With a smile bigger than life,
Remember your Dad,
And his adoring eyes,
And remember the truth,
That he always told,
And never forget,
That you can't be too old,
To bring a smile to an aging face.
