The air was thick with humidity,
Thirty years ago.
And the plans we made
Were humorous;
Or so it surely seemed.
I'll write you from the Italian Alps,
I'm off to see the world,
Maybe one day we'll find our way home,
But promises are cheap today.
You were always the sensible one,
With a wild streak that I just learned about.
I was as untamed as a spring brush fire,
There were years that you could call me a liar,
And I would have had no good defense.
So step onto the deck tonight,
It's beatiful,
I think that you'll surely agree.
A few years later and it is finally ours,
All of this beauty for you and me.
We've worked hard together,
And we've done the right things,
By and by.
When you think about it quietly, and on your own,
It's really been a miracle,
To watch our fortunes as they grow.
The truth itself is not difficult,
There is no great reward that I covet.
All that I really ever want for me,
Is our home and our dogs, and our beautiful trees,
And thirty more years of you and me to love it.
And so special is this day
For you and me,
You see it's another one
Of our anniversaries.
And all that I want
For the remainder of my days,
Is for our life to stay so peaceful,
And perfect, in so many ways.
