We drove our car,
Deep inside the wilderness,
Far away from painful cries,
Screaming out so lonely in the night;
Far away from where the children die.
Mother Earth, will you open,
Your loving arms to me?
Will you nurture, please, this tired old man,
Somewhere deep within the trees?
Mother Earth, what will you take from me,
As the moss creeps over us,
So naturally?
Face down in the street,
At evening-time,
All alone in the neighborhood.
Where have all of our good friends gone?
Across the river,
Deep within the wood?
Can you see me crawling,
On Sunday morn?
Is this really the life that I chose,
The magic to which I was born?
Mother Earth, will you come for me,
And blow your wind within?
Can I really live again,
Will you tell me where to begin?
I have given all that I have for you,
And bad weather is blowing in,
Can I take good root again,
And will you forgive me my sins?
Oh, Mother Earth, please hear me,
For I am your trusted son,
And I long to be
Deep within the wood,
When these days are done.
