Poem Artwork

Life ambushed us today,
Not unlike it has before,
But we’re still smiling,
Like it was any other day.
Just hold me close,
And I’ll make it go away,
As is my promise to you,
Now,
Or any other day.

I hate challenges like this,
Left powerless to fight.
If only it was an outlaw;
I could meet him at high noon.
“Take ten paces and turn, you weasel,
And I’ll drop you before you draw.”
But there’s nobody to duel,
And no advantage to be gained.
We must search our souls for confidence,
And trust someone who we barely know.

You are the reason
That I draw my breath,
And you are the person
Who gives meaning to my life.
We’ve heard the news,
And both of us agree.
It’s nothing;
But if for some reason it is,
Then it’s still nothing,
Certainly nothing that we can’t bear.

You are a jewel,
And more than this,
You are mine.
It’s not as if I possess you,
For that could never be the case.
But I am filled in every measure,
With the essence of you,
And I know that there is nothing I will allow to harm you,
And I know that I could never bear the pain.
